Hello!

We have used DNN for about three years now and from 3.1 we have not tried to upgrade but now I thougth it would be about time.

I found the thread about how to go and upgraded to 3.2.2 without problems. The next step was 4.0.3 and now I'm stuck. I cannot login because I get an application error:

Method not found: 'System.String DotNetNuke.Entities.Users.UserController.GetRegistrationStatus(Microsoft.ScalableHosting.Security.MembershipCreateStatus)'.

I don't know what to do about this. Is there any other way to get to the latest version of DNN? I don't want to cut and past everything on the website. We have a lot of xmod-database stuff too.

Please help!

when switching to DNN 4, make sure to specify using ASP.Net 2.0 in IIS web site settings.

Check out these upgrade instructions.

Thank you for the quick answer!

The website is up and running so I have done most things right. There are two problems: I can't log in and some modules show errors.

I checked the instructions and there were things I had not done as remove the dll and vb-files. But how do I know which dll-files to remove? Can I do this now or do I have to go back and upgrade again?

  • you  should be able to detect old .dll files by date, any dotnetnuke...dll files should have been replaced, including modules if you used install package and re-installed all modules.
  • login problem is most likely caused by a different machine key, please use machine key from previously used web.config file
  • modules showinng errors might be caused by a different second connection string, needed for some legacy modules. make sure both connection strings in your web.config file are identical.

I used the install-package. I think it is hard to detect which dll-files that are from modules...

I've checked and doublechecked the machine keys. And if that was the trouble I would not get an application error, would I?

Searching for the errormessage gives me Dataspring-answers but I don't know I have any modules from them.

The modules showing errors are Text-modules! Funny...
