Hi, I have created a custom skin which has two menus:
  • a horizontal menu at the top of the page, which displays only the root pages. This is created by setting the rootonly property of the solpartmenu to true (or alternatively by using the links skinobject)
  • a vertical menu in the left pane, which displays the child pages of the current page
While the solution works well, there is one small problem: since the horizontal menu no longer displays the child page dropdown menus, I can not access the Administrator pages directly.
My current workaround is this:
  • add an additional page which is only visible to administrators
  • this new page uses a default skin (e.g. DNN-green) and therefore displays the administrator pages in the horizontal menu's dropdown menus)
While this works, it is not very nice. Administrators always have to go to the additional page, before they can access the administrator commands.
Is there a better solution to this problem?

Thanks a lot,
Martin

I normally use [Links] too which helps to see the admin pages. You still need the extra click though.

Another is to make a littel change in you database.
Set the disablelink field of the admin tab to false. This should make the link clickable. Haven't tried it yet.

Where is this in the database?

Martin,

Leigh Pointer has developed an AdminMenu skin object made just for the purpose you intend, and it's free to registered members of his SubZero Solutions site.
