Hi,

Apologies in advance for a newbie question.  I have an instance of DNN4 installed and running on my development machine.  I would like to install the source for the links module, but can't find the documentation describing how to do this.  The Module Developer's Guide seems to focus on building from scratch, rather than working from an existing module source.

Any help would be appreciated.

Kevin

the easiest way is to simply install the links module. The installer will unpack all the files and you can work with it. Alternatively download the links module (source code edition), and unzip it. Within the folder you'll see a *.resources file, rename this to *.zip and unzip that folder, you'll now have all the necessary files to work on it (note: we use .resources file as the .resources extension is protected so the files can't be directly downloaded - if it was a .zip file the contents could be downloaded and possibly stolen)

Thank you very much for your reply.  In the case of the links module (which is the one I downloaded), there is no .resources file.  It is actually a .zip, which I have extracted.  When I try to build the solution, I get many errors due to the fact that the DotNetNuke assembly can't be found.  So this gets to the heart of my question: How do I deploy/configure the solution so that it can find the assemblies it needs from DNN?

Thank you very much for your reply.

The module I am working with is the links module, and in that case there is no .resources file - it is actually a .zip.  I had taken that .zip and extracted it, then opened the solution file.  The solution can't be built, though, because of many errors due to missing assemblies (e.g. the DotNetNuke assembly).

So my question, more specifically, is how to I install/configure the links module source so that it will build properly?

Thanks again,

Kevin

ah, the source version (http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=dnn&filename=Links_04.00.00_Source.zip&use_mirror=osdn ) actually has another zip -it contains the nessary files. You have to add any necessary references in if you're working outside the dotnetnuke source tree i.e. dotnetnuke.dll etc.
