Peter,

Adding the feeds directly into SQL is a great idea and a lot quicker. I didnt even think about that, thx

The link you provided on RSS is a bit dated (Fall '02) Do you have any info on where to find a never copy of the RSS standard is has it not changed since then?

Also, I am not really worried about creating my own RSS XML. I am planning on using the default Feed option included in DNN when ever you place a new module on a page. However when I added this feed to "News Module" then made a change to the content on that module, It did not show anything in "News Module". The module I am trying to syndicate is one I created myself. My question is, How does the feed know when to triger a syndication? Does that make sense..... ? I tought that if I subscribed to the RSS for a module, the RSS automatically picks up on any change to the module. I guessing I was wrong. What do I need to add to my module to where ever else to make it list a Feed in "News Module" whenever someone uses my custom module to upload a new video?

Thank you again!

Hi,

RSS 2.0 is a standard so it is more or less engraved in stone. There is no changing it unless you rename it (to RSS 2.1 or something). It is already relatively old, but that is irrelevant (just like the ancient standard for dates).

When designing your 'wiring' through the site you have to keep caching in mind. Caching has a big impact on syndication. Where do you cache? The Newsfeeds module caches by default as well (30 minutes default), so a change will not show up immediately. Similarly the framework also caches the items it syndicates. Note though, that the way the framework syndicates does not make me happy and I aim to change this. But these things take time.

Peter, My site caches using disk.

I subscribed one of my modules to the news Module then made a change to the module, even 2 days later, nothing has displied in the news module. I also subscribed it to it using MyGoogle. The RSS reader on there says "Information is temporarily unavailable."

Does this indicate a problem with my sites RSS? How can I check this?

The New module does not serve out a feed (yet) until I work out with the rest of the core team how we're going to syndicate.

If you have a feed with an error like the google one, post it in the thread that is pinned at the top and one of these days I'll test all those feeds to see where they go wrong.
