Hi Joiseystud,

the package needs to be fixed to comply the release tracker checks. When it will be ready it will be sent back to the release tracker. Unfortunately it is not that easy to give a reliable timeline for this.

Best regsards,
Dario Rossa

Dario,

On 9/3 you said the package was already resubmitted.  I do not see it in the release tracker.  Are you now saying that it is still in the process of being repaired or that it is already repaired?  I am confused by your statements.  thx in advance for answering

Well, this is it for dnn and me.  It started as a nice idea way back, and I'd put it in place in a few companies with very limited needs over the past year... but it's the same BIG problem of most all "open source" products and non-profit ventures.  Lots of meetings, lots of high hopes, lots and lots of talk but major devils in the released details.

For products to be trusted, I've come to the sad realization that they really do need to be Commercial projects with people getting paid to get things done - and fired/replaced immediately when they don't.

Nice that the Worthey family had a baby, and neato-keen that you are going to Vegas to show everyone how to make a membership provider in 60 minutes.  However, the blog module being in the release tracker "so close can you taste it" for so long now is the killer here.  It makes the whole DNN system look untrustworthy and the other unrelated little things elsewhere that we all just kinda work around start just eating at us as more signs of a rickety system.

Good luck with DNN everyone.  I think just going back to directly coding ASP.Net and throwing in commercial components where needed is a better idea for folks who have any programming background.  DNN is fine as a replacement for FrontPage but if our customers need something real then it appears that "Free" just isn't cost effective.

Brian,

I'm blown away by this whole process.  It is so slow and unreal how poorly it performs.  I can't believe that the release of this module is held up because of 2 localization items (2 db columns that need to be changed to nvarchar). It has been 6 weeks since the last build failed out of the release tracker and here we are without a new build even getting tested.  Even if it went in today we would be weeks away from a release... I have also been waiting for the "new" forum module to get released for about 7 months now...

I am not building sites with DNN going forward unless the promised changes from DotNetNuke corp are realized ASAP! All the empty promises of Cambrian... please.  There will be modules that are still in the dark ages when they decide to click the 5.0 button.  I'm sure blog module will still not be in the release tracker by then waiting for someone to change the data types on those two columns. The DNN team is probably busy making money on the support side and has lost any focus on the "free" side, which is understandable. This proves just how poor of a model open source is.  Next project is going to use Microsoft Sharepoint for CMS.  Its solid, the standard offering is lightyears ahead of this one.  Just goes to show that Free is not free.

Thanks for replying Dario,

As it stands, the blog package is five years behind every other blog package out there.

We either need something better.  Our options are:

  • get the new version of the official blog package, which has been stalled since July (?) because of trivial testing problems (2 cols need to be switched to nvarachar...that's it?)
  • get the source and modify it
  • move to something else entirely.

Right now, #2 looks like the best option, but there is no download available on the project page for the 3.05 release candidate source, and over on sourceforge, the CVS repo looks empty.  What gives?

If this is an open source project, why can't I get the pre-release branch?
