Is there a simple writeup on how the new categories work in the Documents module? I don't see anything in the online help. I've searched a number of times.

Mark,

We are working to actually publish some documentation on how to use the module.  To use the category list feature you must first create a list via Host -> Lists, you can then set the module to use that list inside the settings page!

We attempting this workflow with the DNN 4.9 and the most current version of the Document module.

Created a List called Site, added a sub-list called 'location' with two entries and values.

Opened the document setting; Selected the Category List option and specifed List> Site.location.  Saved.

Edit a document item and Tabbed to Category.  Box item = "Not Specifed"

Is this the correct workflow? Anything further with the documentation?

Dave, I have never tried sub-lists.  That may be your problem.  Try this...

  1. Create a list called "Site Locations" with your two entries in that list.
  2. Set the module settings to point to "Site Locations"
  3. Try entering a new record and see what shows in the drop down list then.

I believe the user control used for list selection is expecting to find entries in the top level list and not finding any.  I will try your list structure here and see what I find.  Post back your results.

Dave, I just finished testing your sub-list issue and I can reproduce what you describe.  Apparently it's a problem with the parsing of list values when there are multi-level lists.  I'm not sure if this is an issue in the Documents Module itself or in a core function that the Document Module utilizes.  I will pass along the details I gathered to the project team and see what can be done. If you create a single list with your two text/value pairs then they do appear in the drop down.
