Ok, here is a followup...I am making slight progress.  I changed the portal alias from www.myDomain.com to www.myDomain.com/dotnetnuke and it now goes to the site and displays as www.myDomain.com/dotnetnuke.  Is there one last step I am missing in order to get it just to display www.myDomain.com?

Also, is there some documentation somewhere that explains all of this?  I have looked at all of the documentation on this site and and it tells you HOW to edit things like portal aliases, but it does not tell you WHAT to edit them to.  Why wouldn't they have a document that describes what I am atrying to do?  It seems like one of the most common scenarios for DNN and I see many many other posts of people having trouble doing the same thing.  I would have no idea that I needed to have my provider point my site to my root directory and I needed to have my own redirect scipt if it wasn't for people taking the time to explain it.  The only reason I tried changing my alias as described above is from google searching for days.

I guess no phone call is necessary then eh?  From what I have experienced in my short 2 weeks, the behavior that you are describing in on the mark.  The problem with 1and1 is that in the root directory is where they keep the asp.net directory which is also why the Code Behind (Bin) needs to be in the root.  Because of this behavior, you have to have your website start at the root and work it's way deeper, thus giving you the /dotnetnuke in the address bar.  Two things you could try now that you are having success.  Call and ask 1and1 to make your root directory an application directory (I doubt they would) and install DNN straight into the root.   You could also see what would happen if you copied the asp.net folder into the dotnetnuke folder and then pointed your domain straight at it although I REALLY doubt that would work.  Perhaps some veteran will know and understand more how to overcome this....

One thought I had was moving away from 1and1.  I like their pricing but the sites seem to load slow, the email is less than consistent, and I'm tired of fighting....   Please let me know how this resolves!

I am pretty sure I have everything figured out but I will post my finding on your thread entitled "Installation on a 1and1 shared hosting account" since it will fit better there as far as explanations on how to get it running.  Thanks for the help.
