Do they have a demo you can download and try?

I'm currently revisiting WebHostAutomation  HELM - I looked at this about 2 years ago - I bought it in fact, but never used it becauase it wasn't able to support DNN but that seems to have changed.

I don't mind spending some time on seeing how they configure, but only if they have a demo that can be tried.

I think you need more than the Network Services security group added.  I played around with this a bunch and found all kinds of install errors when I manually tried to install 4.0.2.  I did get it to work when I added the group "everyone" to the root directory and granted them all rights.  This is scary, but it did prove that it was the security settings.  I'm still trying to figure out exactly what group I need to add to the root (in addition or in place of Network Services).

Yeah, that is scary. I doubt my webhosting will grant Everyone access to everything on my webspace!

I am just going with the 3.1.1 version then, untill this is sorted out by some DNN developers, or Plesk comes with a new DNN version.

Thanks for the info though, PR!
