We are currently targeting social networking API for our next major point release.  The inclusion of FB Connect, Open Social etc have not been specifically discussed but I will be sure to bring them up with the product team who will be working on 5.1 scope document this month.

Thanks Joe - I look forward to the next update then!

Steve - Ultimately it may be up to the module to implement the end-usability, but it would be good if the core could lay the groundwork to create a standard for all modules, so that at least all implementations look and function the same.

It's the same as AJAX/JQuery etc - all modules were doing their own thing but the core provided a platform to work on so there is some more cohesion. There's no point in reinventing the wheel and if you could sign in to DNN with your FB or Google acc it would open the doors massively.

hi Joe et al,

Thank you for this post and the links provided therein...they were very useful

This post was really interesting since my next implementation on a project was integrating using Facebook Connect.  I was happy to see your post hinting on the 5.1 scope to include this.  I saw that DotNetNuke 5.1 Community Edition Beta was being released and checked the release notes and the Gemini project for Authentication Providers, but it does not seem to feature in their road map as well.

Any news of the Facebook connect being included in the scope of the future releases?

thanks once again...

Unfortunately, social networking APIs were removed from scope in DNN 5.1 since that original post.
