I think it would be beneficial to have a forum to discuss the features, bugs or give feedback on DNN 5.0. While this is late now for the initial release, it's not late for later releases. I get the impression that DNN developers are working behind closed doors. Why aren't they getting the users involved before a feature is implemented?

For example, the removal of the ability for portal admins to upload skins. Is there a real security risk? Is this a result of a security weakness in DNN itself that a portal can affect other portals? Why can't this feature be enabled per portal? As a host, I trust my portal admins and want them to use their own skins without my intervention.

I just used the file manager in 5.0 and its container does not expand with the module and the text of the module is overlaid on top of the container's text. I went to the bug tracker here to search for this bug and Gemini gave me a "Gemini Application Error"!

You may trust your portal admin - but this is not always the case.  Do your admins trust each other?  Would you be ok if your admin was able to elevate his status to a Host, and access all the portals?

Then make it an option instead of removing it. If I trust my admins I enable the option. If you don't trust yours, leave it disabled. I don't understand why the option was removed. When the option is available and it's secured by default, you make more people happy.

If an admin can elevate their privilage to a host then there's a real problem with DNN itself! Plug that hole instead of putting a bandaid.

Did some 4.9 hosts complain that portals admins where playing havoc with their servers that the decision was to remove it in 5.0?

As explained on the blog post I linked on your other post, it is easy for admins to escalate their permissions to host, that's why it was removed. Making it optional would also be irresponsible, as anyone enabling it would be opening up a potential security hole. I'm sorry if it's affected you, but you can install via the host user, or else create a simple module to allow admin's to upload to the relevant skin/container folder(s) - it'll still be a security issue, but it's your choice and not a dangerous capability we have built in.

I can't install certain skins from host because they use xml files which are specific to a portal. For example skins which use Flash files which contain a portal logo.

Does 5.0 support installing a skin from host for a specific portal?

Does the file manager give access to the skin folder?
