Tony:  Thanks for the info!

All: Another option is to mix it up!  We needed more control on www.dignuke.com.  We really didn't have a need for a dedicated server, but we thought we would need a high end VPS to handle both IIS and SQL Server with our traffic.  We already had a reseller account with JodoHost which uses the shared web servers and shared SQL servers.  We ended up getting the lowest VPS account on JodoHost for the webserver and use one of their shared SQL servers that is setup on the shared side for the DNN database.  Both servers are on the same network, so it's plenty fast.  It's not as fast as a dedicated, but it's not as slow as shared, and we have full control on the webserver side.

Thanks,

Mike

I have been using VPS for about two years, and I have not experienced any of the "performance" issues that are described here.   You can have performance issues on any type of environment if not setup or managed properly, but I am amazed at how VPS gets slammed in these forums.   I have both VPS and dedicated, and the difference has been capacity needs, and of course, cost.    I bump up the memory on all servers, but VPS has worked out very well with multiple installs, a few portals on each install, and other applications on the same space.

Oh man! I have no idea who replied to my thread and who replied to other (hijackers :) ) thread! That's why it is so necessary to have a threaded view (Will ?).

I will read all the replies and sort them out and reply to each one of them, hopefully correctly.

Thanks to all those who replied.

More soon..
