Hi,

I tried to install DNN 4.09 using the sequence indicated in the docs for installation, creating a MSSQL database called DotNetNuke and the connection string for SQL Server 2000/2005, but the installation halted with an error during the connection to the database. After that I decided to use the automatic installation and the connection string for SQL server 2005 that attaches a default database called "database.mdf" in the |DataDirectory| of DotNetNuke Directory.

The installation was ok. However when using DNN, in the modules list I see only 9 different types of modules (in some documents and videos I have seen many more modules than that).

What I am wondering is if the default database "Database.mdf" in the app_data directory has the same purposes as the database "DotNetNuke" that the documentation recomends to create in the MSSQL Express environment.

Thanks

If you go to the host/module definitions page you'll see a list of "available" modules at the bottom that you can install.

By Default DNN only installs a select few to get you up and running, rather than everything available as the more modules you have on a website, the more memory a resources will use as each module is code that is compiled and loaded at run time.

Yes, there are 2 options to be used with SQL Server 2005/2008 Express: you can either use prepared database.mdf in /app_data, using the default connection string or you may create your own database in DB Management Studio, provide a SQL Server account to be used with permissions for the db and specify this like any "grown up" SQL Server during install. The main difference is, that you can easily access the database using management tools only in the second case, please read http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/EntryId/1202/DNN-SQLExpress-SQL-Server-Management-Studio.aspx
