I have a DNN (4.05) installation with the default settings for password storage (encrypted).

Does anyone know how I could go about encrypting a password given by a user in another application so I could compare it to the password stored in the DNN database? (The application uses it's own implementation of asp's membership, so I can't just use the built in asp.net Membership.ValidateUser method).

Thanks,
David

How about using DNN UserController.ValidateUser?  Search for this method in the DNN project.  You can pass in username/pw from external system into this method.

I don't want to directly couple it with the code, but be able to pull straight from the database.  The original site will eventually be disabled, but I'll retain the aspnet tables in the database for reference.

Does anyone know of a method in the cryptography classes that coordinate with the ValidateUser method?

Thanks,
David

OK, here's what I ended up doing.

I specified a second membership provider in the web.config of the external application and used the line:

Membership.Providers["SecondaryMembershipProvider"].ValidateUser(username, password);

to verify the password against the old DNN application.

I believe I have to use the same encryptionKey and such for both databases this way though... not sure, does anyone else know?

Thanks again,
David
