You should be able to install the zipped skin just like you did before, it will only be installed as a legacy skin.

The installed skin will not appear under Admin / Host > Extensions, but it should be visible in Admin > Skins (with a warning it's a legacy skin)

The "Create Package" link is part of the process of converting an installed legacy skin to a DNN 5 package.

You would use that on a local install to create a DNN package for installation on another installation.

But as I said before you can also install the "old way", just don't expect the skin to appear in the extensions list.

Or you can use Adams way to create a package:

Hello Timo & co

I've started to create homepages on a trial basis for the last 2 months to see if our company should use DNN as a CMS basis. Part of what I'm doing is taking existing designs made for existing homepages and trying to create a DNN skin to give the same look and feel. Since I'm new to DNN, I only know the DNN 5.x way of creating skins, and I don't have any legacy skins. The new skinning documentation is still under development, and there are some issues, that I hope you could help me with.

Some of the design includes splitting the menu and submenu and locating them in 2 different places on the homepage. In the existing design, this is hardcoded, but I was wondering if there are some way in DNN of placing the submenu in a specific place (based on the layout) rather than the auto-floating style that comes with the extropy example. So far, i've used the "Links" object to display the submenu, but that means loosing all of the styles created for the menu. Any good ideas would be very welcome :)

Another thing is that the logo is placed as a background image, and the clickable area to return to the frontpage is also hardcoded into the layout table. Is there any way to make an invisible clickable area in DNN that would give the same effect as clicking the logo image (return to frontpage) or do i need to remake the design?

Thanks
Rune

I used to just edit ascx files when I did skins for DNN4, and now I have switched to using asp.net themes for my general looks. Does DNN support theming and the inclusion of .skin files to allow me to customize my controls?

I am not sue about the dnn:nav but I usually do the split menu with the free ddrmenu from dnngarden.com

you set the top menu to display the top items and the second menu to only active childs of the first level

It seems that it's actually possible to add more than 1 menu as long as the id is different. However there is one other thing I need to know how to do now.

The NAV menu is usually populated with "root", "child", "parent" or "same". In the design I'm following, there's only 2 levels: the main menu and the sub menu. The main menu always displays the same pages, but the sub menu should ALWAYS display the children of the selected main page. This means it should display children when a main page is selected and siblings when a child is selected. However I can't find any way to tell the NAV menu that it should always just show "level 2" pages, or to tell it that it should switch to showing siblings when displaying a child.

I'll try to look for a solution on the DRR menu, but I hope someone has a solution to this in the NAV menu that I've already set up to use the needed styles (I went through css hell to do that) :)

/Rune
