Try clearing cookies/cache.
Otherwise gut feeling is that it could be a firewall/privacy settings/javascript settings issue.

please check whether sql server accepts external connections (this is off by default). Also: you might use the ip address instead of the named instance in your connection string

Thanks for the suggestions, still unsuccesful though :( , cleared cookies and cache, deactivated firewall and dropped privacy settings and security settings to low but no change.

As previously stated, remote connections are definitely enabled.  Tryed using the IP address, still no luck.

Double check security on your file permissions, make security goes down to all child objects (files and folders).

Check 2003 server event log.
Check any SQL Servers logs that might help.
Try full SQL Server if you have it.
