Ok, I'm reaching the end of my rope with this one, I'm trying to get a new install of DNN running for our internal intranet and I'm hitting a problem.

Everytime I reach the 'configure database connection' screen the install loops back to the beginning without any error message, I'm using the 04.09.01 source package on Windows 2000 server with the database on a seperate Win 2003 server with SQLEXPRESS 2005.  The Win 2003 box is a VM running on VMware ESXi.

Connection string as it stands:

<add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=<servername>\SQLEXPRESS;Database=Intranet;uid=<userid>;pwd=<password>;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

I've tryed recreating the DB and recopying the files, SQLExpress is definitely set to allow remote connections and the userid is the dbowner, file permissions are all correct.

I really can't work out whats going wrong.

Please, if anyone has any ideas, help me out.  The whole thing just seems bizarre.  I had a further play around yesterday and actually managed to force the DB creation script to run successfully so have at least proved the connection string is good but I still can't get the wizard past the configure database connection screen which of course means there are no user accounts set up or anything else.

I am sure there are issues to connect to the database, did you validate, that TCI/IP and Named Pipes are enabled on both servers?

I've checked and confirmed both.

Have also now tested installing with the DNN site being on my local machine, DB on the same server, install ran fine.

Still won't run on our production server though.

Can anyone help out here? Am I missing something ridiculously simple?
