Chad,

I have upgraded to DNN 5.1 from version 5.0.1 and I am still getting this error “Error: 'dnn.controls.toolbars' is null or not an object” and parts of the Dynamic Registration module such as the audio on the Captcha does not work on IE 8 because of this error. Also, I am only seeing this error on IE not in testing Firefox or Safari.

Please let me know if you have found a solution.

Thanks,

Lewis

Lewis,

Hi. I just posted a response to your suppot case as well but wanted to follow up with some of the same notes here as we research this/determine what is happening.  So far this is not something we have been able to duplicate but we have been able to determine from working with another client what was happening.  It appeared from our research that based on some conditions/settings within DNN it was not adding some common JavaScript files for the dnn.controls.toolbars but on any of our implementations it was. For example, does the error go away if you are in 'edit mode'? From our research on any out of the box installation it was generating the proper files but on some implementations it was not if you were in view mode or not an admin. Some of the specific .js file I am referring to are dnn.controls.dnntoolbar.js, and dnn.controls.dnnlabeledit etc... A good test is to click 'View Source' in your browser and do a search for the reference to these files. Does it show up within the source if you are in edit mode? Does it show up within the source if you are in view mode or not signed in?

I am wondering if a work around is to use a module like 'Script Injector' from Gumbosoft to properly add the dnn.controls.toolbars js file for unauthenticated users?

If anyone else has any suggestions as to why these wouldn't be rendered please let me know! :) I thought maybe a setting under admin/host settings to 'Disable the InLine Editor' might set a flag to enable/disable the editor JS files but I don't think it does.

Hello-- I never had this javascript error until I upgraded from DNN 5.1.0 to DNN 5.1.1.  Now it is appearing when logged in as an admin and am in "edit" mode.

Just FYI-- thanks

Robert

If someone can email me directly with the information necessary to reproduce this I believe we could get to the bottom of this.  In the email please reference this thread.  Thanks.
