I installed and developed a DNN site on a Windows 2008 server on my local network. Everything worked fine and I could bring the site up from various machines. I then took the server to our colocation facility. Now, over the internet, I am able to see the default IIS 7 site, but am unable to see the DNN site (404). I put a test file in the DNN directory (index.html) and *am* able to see this file over the internet.

When the people who work inside colocation facility browse to the address where the DNN site should be, they are prompted with a login. So - localhost, it comes up, on the local network it is prompting for a username, and across the internet there is nothing. Again, IIS appears to be working and serves the default site.

This has to be some stupid setting, but after much digging I'm not sure if it is IIS or DNN. I'm pretty sure this is not a DNS issue as I am still using IP addresses. Any ideas?

Ummmm....yeah. It's official. I'm a dumb @ss.

In DNN admin - HTTP alias was set to the local network where I originally set the server up (10.x.x.x). I changed it to the new, live IP address and all is well.

Firefox and Chrome helped me solve this. With IE, I would go to the address and it would just 404 on me. Both Firefox and and Chrome changed the IP in the address bar to http://localhost/site_name before timing out. That was the clue I needed.
