From my understanding, no there isn't, but I could be wrong.

You could try however, to consider using the http://www.inventua.com href exchanger.

If you have have access to the IIS records you can change the full url path - but then it affects everyone.. so that might not be such a good idea.

Is this to protect a site while being developed or something.

I'm trying to think of ideas, but I'm still not quite grasping 100% why the secrecy - if I don't want anyone to know about my site I simply use a totally different subdomain  ... eg.. http:somethingelse.domain.com

Then I would suggest perhaps a proxy - by way of accessing only through using modifications to your host file -

I've done that on occasions when working with clients - so unless you know the IP address, have it set in your site developers/admins host file as well, it's pretty transparent.

But even a subdomain would do too.

Thank you very much Nina! The proxy solution does not work for me as I have my portal on a shared host, but the sub-domain solution is just perfect. I did not think about it before - what I'll do is to create a sub-domain, then place all the files during constrution time in that subfolder, and ones finished I place them back in the root.

Thanks - that's what I needed!

Fabian

Phew, I'm glad I could help on that one!! These questions on the forum are getting challenging sometimes.  I try to understand and read into what people want but everyone writes in such a different way.

Good luck with the project.
