Hello All,

I tried searching the forum for an answer but I keep getting timeout expired warnings and I'm probably not searching for the right words... My question generates either no results or a lot of "noise".

The question is: I'd like to assign a bunch of registered users, each with its own page describing who they are and what they do, the possibility of editing the contents of their page. I tried the simple solution: giving editor rights to registered users on the modules in a page but... .this still leaves me with a problem: how to allow users to edit their own page and not someone else's.

I fear the solution is creating a role for each users and assigning that role edit rights on each and every module of the guy's/role's page.... but that means creating 60 plus roles and changing 60 x 4 module permission levels...

Is there a simpler way around this? Before I start this tedious job I'd like to be sure it's the only way to go about things.

By the way I'm using DNN 04.04.01 (too afraid of loosing all the work I've done and or of compatibility issues with 3rd party modules to upgrade to another version for the time being...)

Thank you for any help/suggestion

Edo

Edo, as I posted in the other thread, newer versions of DNN have per user support.

I would recommend trying to upgrade, but do it in a test environment first. Backup your site, backup your DB, setup a test site and attempt the upgrades. I would go to 4.5.5, then 4.6.2 and then to 4.9.1 if I were you.

If you want to have "user pages." then I would recommend that you use modules that support that.  You might want to take a look at

  • UserProfile module from Smart-Thinker
  • ActiveSocial from ActiveModules
  • Venexus

I have used the first, played with the second, but know almost nothing of the third.  I have used UserProfile on several sites, and I can recommend it.  I haven't used either of the others.

Hello Chris,

thank you for your answer. I guess I'll have to be brave and attempt an upgrade at this point.

Do I have to go all the way up to 4.9.1 to get this functionality or is upgrading to version 4.5.5enough?

thank you

Edoardo

due to security issues, I strongly suggest to upgrade to 4.9.2
