They had an RC for DNN5. Apparently the thousands of people missed glaring bugs... :|  Yay us.

5.0.1 is a bugfix release, not something new.

A RC isn't really going to provide any significant advantage vs the verifications the team does on the submitted fixes.

I have said this before and I am saying it again. Why aren't they releasing release candidates? Instead of putting out an official release, find out it has glaring bugs, telling people not to use it and wait for the next release and the same cycle repeats. They have thousands of people to test and they don't make use of this vast resource. (shaking my head)

And I say again... look what happened when we released two RC's last time... we didn't get enough feedback and then people got shocked when we didn't release an RC3. Then people say why was 5.0.0 released the way it was? Why wasn't there an RC3. Anyway I think over 50% of the issues were logged by me last time and most of the 5.0.0 issues were to do with installation and packaging which I didn't get to test. Sorry to bang my own drum.

And I say again.... we got a lot of feedback on DNN 5 (not all good) after it got released which is hopefully allowing us to deliver a better 5.0.1.

Actually I'm really hoping it's coming out next week as I still think there are still a few things to tie up, but I'm really not in the loop and I am not in charge of the release schedule, I'm just the guy who points at the bugs and tests whatever is given to me (the last version I got to test was 5.0.0). I'm hoping I get a version of 5.0.1 to test soon so we as a team can blast through it and find any obvious packaging issues.

Rest assureded I know this is number one priority (nothing but talk about it in the private team forums) and there is a lot of activity happening to make sure it's out REALLY soon. It might even be tomorrow I really don't know. If it isn't out tomorrow it's almost certain out next week.,

If you want people to test and provide feedback, post them for EVERYONE and do it on a regular basis. Personally, charging money for access to the betas should be criminal in an open source application. I believe the initial 5.0 RCs were posted to a public group of users who paid to attended the OpenForce conference, I can't recall if the 2nd RC was offered to the general public or not. I had to beg core members I knew for a copy of RC1.

If you want to get good feedback on the current development trunk, open the SVN server, let us download the current bits and build our own version. If we want to donate our time to test/debug/and submit patches for your commercial application, let us use the development trunk, why prevent us from helping?

RC2 was out for everybody to test and was widely reported:

... and as I said I'm not in charge of the release process....

Wow, I'm really sorry! I figured they were organized enough so you were able to test the current development trunk. That's insane you don't have access to the next release when you're the QA guy...
