I got this to work ... almost ... thanks for all your help.

The "almost" is that it doesn't seem to auto-log us in anymore.  Any suggestions ...?

Are you getting directed to http://<yoursite>/DesktopModules/AuthenticationServices/ActiveDirectory/WIndowsSignin.aspx? What happens if you manually go to that page?

No, it just stops at the home page.  When I click the Login button, then I get to http://jsl-in02/Home/tabid/36/ctl/Login/Default.aspx?returnurl=%2fDefault.aspx.

Let me ask, should I uncomment the Authentication line in the web.config?  When I did that, it gave me the same error I got originally.

Thanks ...

When you installed the latest version of the provider it should've added a corrected line to the bottom of the <httpModules> section in your web.config. Verify that it did this. Also, have you double checked that the provider is enabled and setup properly under Admin->Authentication?

The provider is enabled and set up properly under Admin -> Authentication.  (Just for the record, we can authenticate with our Windows/AD ids just fine, it just doesn't auto-login).

Here is my <httpModules> section:

    <httpModules>
      <!-- add name="Authentication" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.AuthenticationModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Authentication" /-->
      <add name="ScriptModule" type="System.Web.Handlers.ScriptModule, System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" />
      <add name="Compression" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Compression.CompressionModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
      <add name="RequestFilter" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.RequestFilter.RequestFilterModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
      <add name="UrlRewrite" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.UrlRewriteModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
      <add name="Exception" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Exceptions.ExceptionModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
      <add name="UsersOnline" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.UsersOnline.UsersOnlineModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
      <add name="DNNMembership" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Membership.MembershipModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
      <add name="Personalization" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Personalization.PersonalizationModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
    </httpModules>
