The link is the orange background, that's why it's being underlined.
The easiest way to solve this is to add an extra span around the link text and address that with the CSS mentioned before.

I have another question. Since the menu is a css menu formatted by UL and LI, I had to set list-type to none but now the bullets in the text/html gadgets are gone. How can I remove the bullets from the menu but not from the content?

You could place a CSS Class to the ContentPane for instance which still contains your List-Style 'Bullets'

I think it's better to add a css class around the menu to only remove the bullets there...

yes, after i thought about this a little longer you are absolutely right!
That is definitely the more efficient way to achieve this.
