I've been trying to upgrade from 4.07 to 4.09 for weeks now and continue to get the same results every time.  I've setup my timout settings in web.config to an hour, I'm installing the upgrade package with install/install.aspx?mode=upgrade.  I've ready Mitch's notes on his blog, Sebastian's posts and just can't seem to gt past this error:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 Steven,

this might be caused by a permisson issue (file system permissions for ASP.Net account, usually "Network Service", for the desktopModules or app_code folder) or a database timeout (make sure, transaction log is truncated).

Sebastian, thanks for the quick reply.  Will Morgenweck suggested that too and I've checked both in the past;  truncated the DB transaction log and checked permissions.  I can check again.  Any other suggestions you can think of?  I've been trying all the tricks with no luck.   This is on a production site so I only have a few hours (in the middle of the night) to attempt upgrades so the more things I can try at once the better.

As this is a production site, I would recommend that you take a backup of the database and the web directory, install them in a testing environment, and work on the upgrade issues independent of your live site.

Once you have done the upgrade in your testing environment, you can move that upgraded installation to the live site.

Joesph, good suggestion, however since this is a production installation and includes a number of forums and ecommerce so I really can't take a snapshot in time and upgrade it locally.  I need to resolve the process of upgrading and apply it.

Speaking of which, I just tried and upgrade again this morning with the same results.  That's after truncating the SQL Log, resettting permissions for the Network accounts, etc.  It just stops working on the HTML Module installation.  Is there a way to eliminate this module from the upgrade process?

Should I revert back to the install package and manually merge my web.config?  I really need to get past this issue soon and appreciate any advice.
