Hello - I'm looking for a social networking solution. The primary application is for business media professionals to network with one another via securely administered groups and one-to-one interaction. It seems like Active and Smart are the two leading solutions to scope out. I pose these questions to each vendor rep respectively.

1)  Does your solution add tables and stored procs to the existing DNN database, or does it create a new database?

2) Does your solution require the user to create a new user ID and password IN ADDITION TO his existing DNN ID/PW, or does your solution utilize the existing DNN user ID/PW? By utilize I mean does it integrate seamlessly from a functional standpoint and is it 100% transparent to the user. I don't want users to have to create multiple sets of user ID/PWs or feel like their leaving one site to go to another. Graphical/template customization for consistent look/feel is important, but much less so than back end efficiency, i.e. all user personalization data in one database.

Thanks - Fred

Fred,

You probably will be better served by asking these questions on the module bendor websites.  However, I can answer your question here and if you need more detail you can head over to ActiveModules, etc.

1. All DNN Modules create new tables and stored procedures within the DNN database.  If a module required a new database, then it wouldn't be a DNN module.

2. Solutions will always integrate into the DNN authentication system.  The only issue you might have with logins is if you start creating multiple portals and you want usernames, and roles to migrate from portal to portal.  In this case DNN will support this assuming that the username and password for the user is exactly the same amongst the different portals, also there are several third party modules that allow you to set this up as well.

I hope that helps,
Stuart
