I hope someone can help me as the higher ups in my company are getting pretty upset. We're using DNN 4.04.00 and .NET framework 2. Our hoster (Host my Site) installed security patches on their webserver last week and ever since our application has been starting and shutting down every 30 seconds to a minute. The hoster has isolated us in their Application pool and tells us we are using 500 mg of virtual memory every 30 seconds to a minute. They also don't seem to think it's their problem. We haven't made any major changes on our website. Can anyone give any suggestions? This is production site and while the website itself is working fine, our reporters (employees) cannot send out reports from our website/client database to a VPS email server we have setup because the transfer/load keeps getting dropped when the application resets.

which modules do you have installed?

besides, you should consider to upgrade to latest DNN version (4.9.3), where a number of issues have been fixed.

Eric,

As Sebastian suggests I would get upgraded ASAP as there are MAJOR performance improvements in newer versions.  However, I understand the urgency of the matter.

You might look at your Caching method and switch to Disk from Memory, the cache performance will be a bit slower if you are on a shared host, but it will reduce the memory footprint, thus preventing the recycle that you are currently experiencing.

If you need more help, drop me an e-mail msellers@iowacomputergurus.com (As I don't always catch forum replies)

IMHO this should read "from  Memory to Disk".

Another valuable option is to uninstall unused modules.

I am assuming you are looking at the event viewer to see what is going on.  You might have a database that is getting too full.  Look at scheduled events and make sure you are cleaning your log files on a scheduled basis.  Change you cache settings and read some of the blogs Mitch Sellars has, they have helped me out, or contact him directly if you are in a hurry.
