I have created a site in DNN 4.9.0.2 on local PC, and I worked with it in Visual Studio 2008.

When it was completed, I transfered it on web hosting.

Two days ago, a new release of DNN 4.9.0.3 was out and I decided to upgrade.

I did the following:

1. Download Upgrade .Zip

2. Replace all the files of my site with those from Upgrade Zip

3. Access to my site on localhost like this: localhost/mysite/

4. The site was upgraded, and I saw a success message.

5. I did the same procedure with my remote site

The two sites were fully functional, until I opened my localhost site with Visual Studio in Debug Mode

I simply pressed F5 to run my site in Debug, the default start page was: localhost/mysite/default.aspx

But, I do not know why, the first openned page was localhost/mysite/Install/Install.aspx?mode=upgrade

Then, a message appeared on screen saying that I have site's database version of 4.9.0.3 and site's version of 4.9.0.2

Upgrading to 4.9.0.2....

Upgrade done, click here to return to yur site.

I clicked and was again redirected to the same URL: localhost/mysite/Install/Install.aspx?mode=upgrade

But, when I close Visual studio and accessing to the site directly by typing url: localhost/mysite, there's no problems, the site is openning, but there are critical errors on some pages.

My live (remote) site, as it was not recompiled in Visual Studio after upgradem is working fine.

Where the problem can be? And, how coul I repair my site on localhost? I do not want to reinstall it from scratch...

Thank you.

always make sure, ASP.Net account has full permission for all files and subfolders - including web.config.

All the permissions are granted to Network Service Account fro folders and sub-folders - I am on Windows Vista Ultimate.

So, it must be something else.

When I am accessing to my site via URL, there is no problems, from Host Admin, I can see that the site and database are both 4.9.0.3

When I am trying to debug in Visual Studio 2008, there is a strange redirection from default.aspx to upgrade.

The problem is somewhere in VS configuration, but I cannot find where...

Finally, I've got it.

Trying to clean-up the solution, restart IIS, delete ASP temp files and redoing upgrade.... All that things did not help me.

Then, thanks to previously saved backups, I returned to 4.9.2. And then I tried to rerun the upgrade, I thought that maybe I did something wrong in the past.

But, it was again a wasted time.

So, I downloaded the Source of 4.9.3 and replaced the Library Folder of my actual site with new one.

Opened Visual Studio, rebuilded all. And now, thanks God, all is working again.

if you recompile DNN library, of ccourse, you need the proper source files. But you need to compile DNN solution only. if you modified core framework - which is not recommended. If you just want to compile your WSP modules, open web site instead of source solution; if you need to compile your WAP module, it should include it's own solution. To run a site, you do not need to compile the site at all (precompilation of DNN is not supported).
