I have a few websites where it would be great if headlines could be rendered using other fonts than the standard web fonts (arial, verdana etc.). The best possible way that I can think of (and a way I've seen used in other CMS's) is to render the text as an image, server side.

I'm a realtively seasoned VB.NET developer, and rendering the text is no problem. However, this is going to be my first DNN extension, so I thought it'd be best to ask for a few tips to get me in the right direction.

Any inputs on how to best accomplish this task? I'm thinking it could be a good idea to do this using DNN tokens. I'd like to implement this on container level, so that all headlines shown using a specific container are rendered.

Also, if anybody knows of a module that does this already, please let me know - there's no point in reinventing the wheel.

Use DNN ready made module like Hadlines or Text/HTML. They might help you...
