I am new to DNN and keep getting this error on my log in module, which is (if I remember correctly) also the same error that I was getting on one of my forum's modules that I eventually gave up on.

 A critical error has occurred.
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

I am hoping that someone can maybe help me out with this. My webhost said that they do not allow remote dB connections but then when they learned that the problem was within the same site they said I needed to ask the author. It could very well be my host but I do not know what to say to them.

Also, is it normal for DNN sites to run s-l-o-w?  When I started this project I used one host and they seemed terribly slow so I went to another and they are also very slow. Should I do something?

Thanks so much for any advice,

Jeanne

Jeanne,

Did you setup DNN or did someone else? When you moved hosts, did you configure BOTH of the connection strings in the web.config file? My guess is you likely have one configured correctly, and one incorrectly?

As for performance issues. There are definitely ways to speed DNN up, but the first place I would look at is what hosting company you are using. If you're using a very cheap service, there are likely thousands of websites on one webserver, meaning yours is just one of many, and that can cause performance issues.
