I have a DNN site (v5.00.01) as an intranet and internet site hosted via dynamic dns from my pc in my study.

I have installed the blog module (v3.5.1) and have added an entry (from the intranet) and all is working great. However, when I go to view that blog from the Internet, the permalinks are trying to redirect me to the computer name of the intranet server where the DNN site is hosted (which is not accessible from the internet).  After logging into the site from the internet, I regenerate the permalinks, which now allows me to access the blog entries from the internet, however, this then tries to redirect me to the dyndns name from the intranet (which doesn't work).

Does anyone have any ideas on how to make the same blog accessible from 2 (or more) different domain names?

Not that I know of. Even though DNN has support for multiple domains, the DNN Blog module treats each permalink as is. I haven't seen any substitution  inside of it so you may be out of luck here.

You can however setup  aliases in your hosts <windows dir>\drivers\etc\hosts file to  temporarily switch between intranet and extranet domains. This approach however  works best only as a test harness. It cannot be used to share content across multiple domains (with just the domain part of permalink change). It also makes a restore of the database alone on a different server  difficult, an issue I hope somebody will resolve in future versions of teh blog module.

Anybody on the Blog team, please feel free to correct me. I might be wrong.

I noted some interesting behaviour last week with the blog module..

I was able to EDIT a blog thread from the internet, but I was not able to view that same blog thread by using the "Read More" or thread title links..  However, when I saved the thread, I was then able to view it from the internet, but was unable to view it from the intranet.  Again, editing the thread on the intranet and saving it allowed me to view the thread from the intranet.

Is there a difference in the code behind the Edit and View links which allows the above behaviour ??

Could the fix be as simple as adding in a portal alias?

I copy my live site to a development server for testing and I have multiple portal aliases setup.

Live site: www.intertech.net.au/dnn4
dev Site: local.intertech.net.au/dnn4

I am able to edit/add blogs regardless of the site.  Im not sure if it will work in your situation, but I can't see why not.

 Nigel,

I have both the internal and external URL's in the portal alias table.

When you say that you are able to edit /add blogs regardless of the site, are you accessing your site from outside your domain?  Are you logged into your DNN site at the time?
