Am I right in think you can only really search on words with the out-of-the-box search function of DotNetNuke. If you can search on phrases, how do you do it as I can't seem to find any in my standard text/html containers (I have re-indexed of course).

Hi, Jeff-
I'm glad you thought enough of the solution to share a link here.  Thank you as well for documenting the source of the solution in your City of Napels website documentation.  I've been trying to figure out how to parlay that one into a business trip to south Florida.  ;)

I'm currently attempting to get "Mr. Weasel" (that's a little joke) from the Weaselfire Wordpress site you linked to also give credit to the original source (my blog).

There's more info to be had by checking out the original series at http://googleAJAXsearch.com or any of the three postings individually:

Google AJAX search for DNN Part 1:
  http://www.eguanasolutions.com/DNN_Blog/EntryID/7.aspx

Google AJAX Search for DNN Part 2:
   http://www.eguanasolutions.com/DNN_Blog/EntryID/9.aspx

Google AJAX Search for DNN -- Preventing ENTER key from clearing results:
  http://www.eguanasolutions.com/DNN_Blog/EntryID/14.aspx

Sooner or later I'll wrap up the series with the promised "Part 3".

Cheers!

Mark-
I haven't peeked into the latest iteration of the DNN search routines but in slightly older DNN versions it was true that the default search was single-term-based (one word only).  The stored procedure GetSearchResults tells all.  DNN search also does not allow substring searches (so a search for "page" will not return any results for "pages", "pager", etc.)  I recently posted the simple tweak needed to enable substring searches in the default DNN search.

Also worth noting:  The Google AJAX search previously mentioned will only work for you if your content is public (so Google can see it and index it).  If you want to search private content (pages that require a login), you'll need to stick with the default search or replace it with some other internal search solution.  The original blog page also has a working example of the AJAX search.

Hope that helps-

UPDATE:   The admin of the Weaselfire blog has allowed my comment regarding the blog / code source and had also added a comment line to the code itself giving source credit.   Since there is no owner name or contact info on that site I can only say, "Thanks Weaselfire admin, whoever you are..."
