Hi ,

I am working for  a large client who is currrently using  DNN version 4.2 in production.

I was pushing them towards moving to DNN 5.

There were some new restrictions put in place by web hosting teams of the company , they would not allow the website to write files to its virtual directories.

So i was thinking of xcopying DNN5 as part of deployment and try to migrate users / roles etc and some content pages too , from 4.2 to 5.1. So basically i want to install the new modules as xcopy to the virtual directory.  I am guessing installation of module would inturn  copy the ascx files / dlls and updating tables in DNN to reflect installation. I was thinking if we copy them manually and update the DB with the scripts manually it would suffice.

Is this possible at all , is there any documentation around this some where ? what would you think is the best way to tackle the scenario.

Thanks for all the support.

Regards,

Raja

The website NEEDS to be able to edit files inside the DNN installation directory, this is a basic requirement.
