I am working on dotnetnuke community edition. I need to customize forum module so I download source code for forum module. I add this module as normal module. I placed all filed of this module in forum in desktopmodule folder. Now I dont find any way to install this module because there is not any .dnn file to install module in module defination. My question is how to install source code module in existing project.

thanks

Imrankhan

don't extract the module from the zip file, install it over dnn extensions as a module.  It should install all needed files.

I have done by Install module and all files with code files placed in desktop module folder but I cant debug .vb files or class files in app_code because reference goes directly into Dotnetnuke.modules.forum.dll. I am not able to change anything in .vb file. so I have change namespaces of all usercontrols files and class file with yourcompany.modules.myForum and install this module as normal module. now I just want to change webcontrols of forum module. can you tell me from where can I download <dnn:dnnForum .....>  webcontrol source code? Because I am getting error that says "Conversion from type 'yourcompany.modules.myForum.Config' to 'Dotnetnuke.modules.forum.Config''  is not valid".

Thanks

The module uses WAP format (web application project) which means it doesn't use appcode. You need to be using visual studio 2008, express 2008 w/ sp 1, or vs 2005 w/ SP 1 (not express) or you won't be able to develop the module.

I believe what he/she is asking is the same question I have.  If I download the source code for a module how am I able to edit the source code recompile it and then upload that module since the source code doesn't come with a dnn file?  Do you know of a tutorial showing how to do this.  I have the source code for invenmanager's events calendar module and I am trying to modify it.

Please help

Thanks
