OK, Ian and the rest of the DNN Gurus, please dont hate me for this .. I managed to resolve this.

Everything is fine now, the reason why a newly installed DNN 5.01 is working fine and a 4.x is not is because i was careful enough to set the appropriate permissions for the new installation folder but not for the old folder, i just copied it from ftp and as such the permissions to that for ASPNET user NETWORK USER, IUSER etc etc all need to be set same.

Sorry for all the hassle guys.

Suman,

No worries! At least you A) have it solved B) understand why its resolved and C) updated the thread with your resolution. Although it ended up being a trivial problem, at least now its a well documented trivial problem and could potentially help someone else in the future :)
