Well, I upgraded to 5.4.4 and this problem went away.  However, I still cannot use either the Admin File Manager nor the Host File Manager when logged in with a host account.  The modules load OK, but all of the buttons are disabled except refresh.  So I can't create or delete folders, can't upload files, can't sync with the file system, etc.  Any ideas what to try next?  I'm also wondering if this is related to some other issues whereby installing new modules is failing - usually due to permissions problems.  Note that I'm quite sure I have the right file access permissions on the underlying file system for the application pool's identity.  And Admin users can use the Admin File Manager without problems.
