Is this a problem of PERMISSION? I've tried to change it on the server (in the 'forum' folder under 'desktop modules' and 'forum' under 'portals/0/') with no results

Any suggestions?

This looks for me to the issue where the user post a thread after he was timedout from the server on Forum version 4.4.3, and his settings wasn't repair before upgrade to Forum 4.5.3.  Try to enable all Forum notification in my settings as that user and save the settings.  Try to post. If it is going you can disable all the notifications.

This was worked on Forum 4.4.3.  If it doesn't work, we have to search for a other solution for 4.5.3.

The forum module is 4.5.3. Since its new forum I've tried to change the notifications settings back and forth with no result - I cannot post a thread from any user (admin, host or regular). This doesn't change although I've tried to uninstall the reinstall the module. Moreover, on the same server I'm running another DNN site in which everything is working fine.

It seems that I've ran out of options...

If you run into any issues on install, you have to check the database after uninstall the module for any still exists tables, procedures, viewes and functions and delete them.

Then make sure you have all permission settings for the physical files and subfolders setup well! Check both connection string in your web.config file that you have set them well!  Restart the DNN Application and try a then a new install.

So long you still have any artifacts from the forum module in to your database after you had delete them a new install will fails with errors!

If you try a upgrade of the previous forum module, you must be sure that you didn't have any issues into your forum database!  If you have issues in your Forum 4.4.3 that a user can't post after a timeout issue on a post from him, you will have corrupt entries on your database forum tables that may have to fix before you upgrade!

It seems that uninstalling, completely deleting (both files and table in DB) and reinstalling the module was the only solution.

problem solved.
