I got this same exact error and it took me forever to locate this thread. I saw lots of people posting on various message boards about it, but no one had any solutions. I was beginning to think I was not going to be able to use DNN for my website.

My website had been running DNN fine (DNN 4.3.4) with an Event calendar control hanging off the root menu of my site (not on the home page, though). I thought it would be cool to put a second event module (a list this time) on the home page to show upcoming events, and display this to all users. I figured it'd be a good idea to cache this control for 1 hour, since it's on the home page and since we don't get a lot of new events. Sounds logical...MISTAKE!

The next time I visited my site as an anonymous user, it froze up and threw the OutOfMemoryException error. After finding this thread, I logged back into my site, set the cache time on the Event module on the home page to 0, and voila: error gone.

Thanks everyone for your research on this! It definitely helped me.

I used the auto-installer at CrystalTech...   and I immediately get this error.   I never got to the home page.    What do I do now...   4.3.5 Install Only version.

Just like you all, I have searched long and hard to find this post. I am about to change caching on a blog module that seems to be the culprit on my client's site...after my server reboots. Well, they are my client today, but because of this error I have seen them posting on a forum regarding getting a REAL host. Well, I have been hosting with DNN for almost 4 years now and I recently got a dedicated server and only run 7 DNN installs on it with a few sites on each. That is probably better than they will get with any shared host at a reasonable price. Maybe if the caching thing solves this, I can win them back.

WOW! It seems to have worked. I just took out the default 1200 on the Cache property and left it blank and now the w3wp process is hanging at around 50K instead of 550K, which is was spiking to along the way to the Out of Memory error.

Hopefully I can win back my customer now.

Things have been running along pretty good for the last couple of months. And now after updating all my DNN installs to 441 I am starting to get System Out of Memory Errors about 3 times a day for over a week now. I have a dozen DNN installs on this server and I cannot figure out from my Server or DNN logs exactly which portal is causing this issue. I have posted on the main DNN boards and even offered to pay someone to look into my DNN and/or server logs to see if they can help...but no one is interested.

I cannot figure out if someone has put up a new blog or events module that may be the culprit. Does anyone have any other ideas on troubleshooting this?

Wow.  This post has been running for about a year now and it doesn't sound like people have found a good solution.  Now we are seeing this exception on several of our sites.

Our sites run DNN 4.5.3 and are distributed across several servers at our host.  During the last month I have seen this happen 5 times: System.OutOfMemoryException.  Only one of the sites is using an Events or Blog module.  Who knows how often this has happened when I wasn't around to see it.  This morning it happend while I was editing a simple HTML module.

Of course, there may be 3rd sites hosted on our same server running DNN with blog or event modules that we don't know about.

This is a sticky issue.  Eventually our customers are going to get angry.  Has anyone found a solution recently?
