We've got a DNN 3.2.2. site with 750 tabs.
It's hosted on a dual 2.66GHz Xeon server with 2GB of cache.

With only "a few" simultaneous requests, the site pegs the CPUs on our server at 100% for minutes at a time.  When this happens, page load times go into the stratosphere (20 sec.+ per page) and essentially our site is down.  Memory doesn't appear to be an issue, but CPU utilization sure is.

We either need to quickly find a way to dramatically increase performance (a new server is on the way but we're worried that won't do enough) or we'll be re-building the site in a different framework.

Does anyone have any performance data on 3.2.2 vs. 4.x?  We never had issues before with 3.1.x and even for several months of 3.2.2, but we've added about 50 pages in the past 3 weeks and that appears to have hastened the decline of our server.

If DNN 4.x has significantly better performance for big sites like ours, then we'd go that route (instead of switching completely).

That seems odd. How often is the site accessed? I wonder if this is a caching issue.

Honestly, there should be a slight boost of performance in the 4.x line; however, this is merely due to the .NET upgrades and has nothing to do with DNN. The two versions of DNN should work almost identically.

If you do consider upgrading to 4, I'd suggest waiting for 4.1.

The site gets 1,500 unique visitors per day (roughly).

I have heavy cacheing turned on.  If that's not on, the site goes down entirely, literally.

My CPU just pegs at 100% and never comes back.

My SQL server claims it's receiving an average of 122 table locks per second to the DotNetNuke database.
