The version of DNN is 4.9.3 and I have tried multiple versions of Excel...

Fiddler indicates that a 302 redirect is happening, but it appears to be originating from within DNN.

can someone explain if this is a DNN bug, and if its going to be fixed? Its very easy to recreate in either 4.9.5 or 5.4.2.

just set some querystring parameters in your url (you can either embed themin the url or put them after the default.aspx, it doesn't work either way), and then paste that link into some other program (word, excel, outlook,etc..), if your link is pointing to a protected page, and you are already logged in, the parameters are dropped.

If you are not logged in, you are presented with the login control, and your parameters are saved as part of the returlurl and everything works as expected once you log in (ie, your parameters are passed correctly.

So the issue is the additional redirect done by DNN when accessing a page when the user is already logged into the site on a browser window.

this is really causing problems for us.

thks

I am having the same problem - perhaps a little easier to demonstrate as follows:

1. Create a page that contains a Login module - it doesn't need anything else

2. Visit the page as an unathenticated user, but modify the URL to take additional params (as mentioned by the previous poster, either as /name/value or ?name=value). Make sure you hit refresh after changing the URL so it's actually part of the URL!

3. Use the login control on the page - after login, the same page is presented as it should be, but the query string params will have gone missing.

If someone can tell me a way around this, I would be very grateful.

Regards
Steve

AFAIR there is a rewrite rule for login page.

I have discovered the following:

1. The login module always discards query string parameters when it builds it's own returnurl parameter

2. If you craft a link that specifies a returnurl parameter with querystring params added, it is kept BUT it does not work if you have a home page defined on the site.

After I crafted my own login links (using XMOD Pro as that was the easiest way I could get at the existing query strings params) and changed the site settings so no home page is defined, it worked as it should.
