Today I struck the very same symptoms with the Events 5.00.02 module. (sorry to harp on but I'm hoping this info is useful to someone)

The Gallery 4.03.00 module installed successfully on the same installation.

So far...

Events 5.00.02 failed
Forums 4.05.03 failed
activeforums 4.01.16 failed
Gallery 4.03.00 succeed

Since it seems this is not actually a problem with the forums module itself, this thread is in the wrong place. Is there another thread somewhere addressing this issue or should this one be moved?
