I did several DNN 5.1.4 upgrades and now my CPU stays pegged at 80% or more most all of the time. I already have quite a few of my site running in dedicated app pools. But I also have quite a few in the standard app pool and the w3wp.exe stays pegged. This standard pool has both DNN 4.9.5 and 5.1.4 sites on it if that matters. Or I guess that might not be the case if IIS automatically puts the DNN 2 and DNN 3.5 sites in different pools. I have 5 w3wp's under the User Name of NETWORK SERVICE but only one of them is pegged. I have about 8 other w3wp's running under the web user for the dedicated app pool.

What would be something to check other than putting each site in a dedicated app pool one at a time? These are not large or high traffic sites. Mostly just business card sites. Like I mentioned, I have already put most of my larger or high traffic sites in their own pool.

Cliff,

I would start by ensuring that you didn't loose configuration/performance settings.

What is the best way to determine what sites are running under a particular Process ID (PID). I can see the PID for the particular offending w3wp.exe worker process, but I am not sure how to determine what sites are operating in that process. I have quite a few moved into dedicated app pools, but still the same issues of 50 - 100% CPU usage on a fairly regular basis.

If I could just peek into that PID and see what sites are running then I could be much more efficient at resolving this issue.

Thanks.

usually the user of the app pool should be listed with the process - use individual users per app pool.

drop to a command line and run the command "iisapp" and you'll get that, ex:

Microsoft Windows [Version 5.2.3790]
(C) Copyright 1985-2003 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>iisapp
W3WP.exe PID: 5992   AppPoolId: DefaultAppPool
W3WP.exe PID: 6360   AppPoolId: DNN4-CXXXXX
W3WP.exe PID: 2612   AppPoolId: DNN4-DEFAULT
W3WP.exe PID: 612   AppPoolId: DNN4-MXXXX
W3WP.exe PID: 3732   AppPoolId: DNN4-CXXXX
W3WP.exe PID: 4880   AppPoolId: DNN4-EXXXXX
W3WP.exe PID: 6728   AppPoolId: DNN4-CHRISBUSSE
W3WP.exe PID: 7132   AppPoolId: DNN4-VXXXXXX
W3WP.exe PID: 2496   AppPoolId: DNN4-NXXXX
W3WP.exe PID: 3408   AppPoolId: DNN4-AXXXXX

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>

I have a batch file on my servers for that as simple:

iisapp
PAUSE
