It seems like these issues are stemming from some configuration of the .NET Framework... maybe.

I was trying to narrow it down to a specific site so I created another dedicated app pool and put about a dozen sites in it. Pretty soon, now I have both app pools consuming as much as they can of the CPU. I also have a couple of sites that were upgraded to DNN 5.1.4 and say 3.5 is the Framework in the Host Settings. But when I look at the site in IIS, the .NET tab only shows 1.1 and 2.0. There is no 3.0 or 3.5 selection. And these new sites will have the same issue with consuming the CPU. One was just now consuming between 60% - 99%. This is a brand new site with practically no traffic. As soon as I hit the site to login and check the Event Viewer the CPU usage dropped off and has not gone back up. The Event Viewer only has a few Application Started entries in 8 days. Nothing else.

I know I have the 3.5 framework on my server. It is my understanding that there are no breaking changes between .NET 2.0 and 3.5. There is just additional functionality in 3.5. Can someone confirm that?

Since DNN host settings says the site is using 3.5 and the site shows 2.0 in IIS and the App Pool was auto named palladinsolutions.com Pool 2.0 could that be an issue?

I am using DotNetPanel as my control panel for all of my sites. I rarely have to jump into IIS. So does this information jump out at anyone who can help me resolve this issue?

Thanks?

Cliff,

please be informed, that .Net 3.0 and 3.5 are just extended versions of .net 2.0 and will be referenced in version selector as 2.0. This will change with .Net 4.0

any DNN > 4.9.0 should preferably run in integrated mode of IIS 7 or IIS 7.5

If a new site causes the app pool to use much memory consumption, a background process like scheduler might be misconfigured.

The new site has two scheduled tasks enabled. The search engine scheduler every 30 minutes and purge schedule log daily. The logs are pretty clean. I just see most tasks are under a few seconds.

So do you really think moving from IIS 6 to 7 is going to fix all this.
