Concerning your suggestions:

  • I didn't have any URL Rewrite rules defined. The site I had setup in IIS was the original site I had setup previous to the v5.x version upgrade. Nothing fancy at all. When I first discovered the problems with the site after installing everything new, I deleted it and re-setup everything in IIS. Again, nothing fancy.
  • I've attempted to use all 4 built in identities on the app pool and also attempted to use the main administrator ID. No go. Same issue.

I'm going to continue to fiddle with things, but please continue to give me suggestions. I've not had any issues in the past, so I don't believe this is as much of an issue with me as it is with the new v5.x version. As I said initially, this isn't a new problem, but I was unable to find a viable solution in previous posts/questions. As such, I'd very much appreciate the DNN team getting involved as much as possible. Thanks much for all your help.

if you are on IIS 7.5 now, you might want to check out latest blog post from Cathal on this site.

is it a new install of DNN 5.2.0 (or precisely, 05.02.00) or an upgrade from which previous version?

if upgrade, did you move to a new machine the same time?

I went through the blog post and updated the app pool identity accordingly. It did not help; same issue.

As I stated previously when you asked, I've attempted both upgrade and new installations. Neither has worked. I'm currently just attempting to get a brand new DNN installation with the brand new default portal working with a brand new IIS site. Fresh, as if I've never used it before.

This has all been done on my own dev box. Windows 7, also as I stated. So no new machine or deployment.

Please advise. Thank you.

I am quite sure, there is an issue in IIS web site configuration. Either you activates IIS url rewriter, Authentication with impersonation, dynamic compression or sth like this.

Please accept my apologies for the frustration you're about to read.

I've gone through every single IIS setting available...four times. It doesn't work.

I uninstalled and reinstalled IIS. It doesn't work.

And no, URL Rewrite has no rules defined, as I already previously stated. If I could attach a screenshot, I'd prove it to you so you, so please don't question me again about it.

I've attempted every type of authentication available. It doesn't work.

Dynamic compression is on by default. Regardless of whether compression is on or off, it doesn't work.

Look, it seems obvious to me something's different with the new DNN installation. Someone with a Windows 7 box should be setting this up, testing, tweaking and documenting how to set it up properly so the installation instructions can be updated accordingly. I've *never* had any issues like this with past versions and I did not change any IIS settings when I went to the new version. I submit to you that DNN doesn't just work with no problems one day and then just stops working when I install a new version. There's obviously something different in the new version that wasn't specified in the installation instructions on how to configure.

Sebastian, I appreciate your attempts to help. But I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't question me anymore about what I've already explained clearly to you. I'd appreciate other opinions in this matter. Also, again as I've stated previously, I see from other posts that this is not a new problem. It seems to be one that has plagued DNN here and there. But I've never found a solution in any of the other posts.

I love DNN. I'm a huge fan and will continue using it. As a software architect, I've been very pleased with it. But right now I'm very much looking forward to any help anyone else out there may be able to lend in addition to Sebastian so I don't have to download the code and debug myself. I would very much like this resolved. Thank you.

Boyd
