This now looks like a SQL issue welcome to the brave new world of MS security... nothing gets enabled by default anymore...nothing!!!

You will need to check that SQL Configuration for SQL Express shows TCP/IP AND Named Pipes as being "Enabled" for Network Connections. IFAIK, only TCP/IP is enabled by default.

You find this under "Start" --> "Programs" --> SQL Server 200x -->Configuration Tools

Once you enable the missing Network Connection you'll need to restart SQL Express.

After that you "should" be able to revisit DNN installation and the "Auto Configure" option should be available, the error msg should be gone when you do the connection test

 Hi Ken,

I went to the SQL Server Configuration manager and enabled both TCP/IP and Named Pipes. Shared memory was already enabled and I just left it like that but everything stayed the same, I even restarted the computer. Just in case, I also checked under "SQL Native Client 10.0 Configuration">"Client Protocols" and the order is as it follows:

Shared memory: 1
TCP/IP: 2
Named pipes: 3
VIA: Disabled

Any other suggestions?

Hmm.. can you attach the database located in App_Data folder in SQL Express?

I'm asking as I'm thinking this folder may have missing or incorrectly applied permissions. I used to run into this in Vista once in a blue moon it's about the last stab I have for this problem.

Well, for some reason, when I try to attach it I can't get to the full path where it's located. The full path is "C:\Users\Jp\Documents\work\websites\cinemacafe" and I can only get to "C:\Users\Jp\". This has something to do with permissions right? Doesn't the dnn website permissions override this?

Ken, u've solved the problem. It was a permission issue that started from the "Users" folder. Even though I had correct permissions on my dnn website, the system wasn't allowing "users" folder to attach the database. I've never had so much trouble installing DNN before. Guess so much security is not so good after all. I think microsoft should get a grip.</p> <p>I will save this thread and take it to the grave, I've never known anyone who had to do so much for this stupid/simple issue. Maybe the DNN installation pdf manual should talk a bit about all those possible issues that come with Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Thanx a lot!</p>
