i need to grab a delivery zipcode from my user at the very beginning of their session.

ideally.....i'd like a little box pop up prompting the user for the zipcode while the homepage is grayed out behind it - they can't go on until they submit the zipcode. a modal popup.

can this be done in dnn somehow?

add the zip code as required to the user profile properties in admin user management.

in user settings, make sure, "valid profile for login required" is enabled.

well....

that won't exactly work....

i need to allow anyone to get on the site and browse products and even add products to a cart. then.....if they go to check out.....it requires them to log in. your way......it requires each person to log in first.

also.......under admin....there is no "user management" as you suggested. there's "user accounts"....but no "user management"

so i'll assume you meant "user accounts" - i still see no "user profile properties" where i can "require" zip code

i guess i just don't know what you're saying.

Log in with administrator access
Go to Admin > User Accounts
In either the Module Menu or at the bottom as links you will see "Manage Profile Properties" - Click it
Find "Postal Code" in the list, check the box in the "Is Required" Column
Click 'Apply Changes'
Return to "User Accounts" [cancel/menu/bread crumbs - doesn't matter how]
Find "User settings" Next to where you found "Manage Profile Properties"
In the "User Account Settings" [3rd section] down towards the bottom of it you will find "Require a valid Profile for Login". Ensure that this is set to true.
Click update as required.

This will force any one to fill out the Postal code before they can complete a login to the site. They will still be able to browse and use the site without logging in; but as soon as they attempt to log in, it will require them to enter their postal code.
