Hi,

I hope that someone here can help me out, i am currently using an old version of DNN - using 04.09.00 - we wish to upgrade this to the latest version - i have spent sometime trying to research the best way to do this but am still completely confused.  The original install was done by a friend onto a web server, though i have lost contact with him and so am feeling a bit lost about the whole process.  Any help would be massively appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

Dan

First and foremost, be sure to back up the database and site files BEFORE you start!!

There are a number of tutorials out there, but the process is pretty simple from the version that you are on.  You should be able to do the upgrade in one step, just by unzipping the upgrade package over the top of your current installation, then navigating to the install page to do the upgrade.  http://www.yoursite.com/install/install.aspx?mode=install

Mitch,

Firstly thanks for such a prompt reply, so am i correct in thinking that I just need to download the latest Upgrade version of DNN and then simply copy the files over the existing files and upgrade.  Will it be ok to go direct from my version to the latest? and are there not any changes to the database structure at all?

Cheers again,

Dan

I just successfully upgrade one of our test sites 4.6.2 --> 4.9.0 --> 5.2.2 without any issues.

On the main portal it has 8 pages 10 users, blog module and the forum module installed

On the child portal it has 5 users, forum module and the Events module installed

The site uses the default Extropy skin

I have not checked every possible user/module combination but after the upgrade I was able to log in as Host and Admin and a blog user and there were no upgrade errors in the site Event Log

There is 1 issue that you'll likely run into when you attempt to sign into the site the 1st time after upgrade.

It's logged in Gemini currentlyas a DNN Pro bug.

The detail and workaround is as follows:

You won't be able to log in... you click the Log in link and nothing happens or you get a JQuery error.

Close your browser clear all cache and cookies, revisit the site and at that point you should be able to log in.

CAVEAT:
There were no 3rd party modules installed on this test site.

If you have 3rd party anything on your site please check with the vendor for 5.x.x version compatibility before you upgrade.
