How can I upgrade from DNN 05.01.04 to 05.02.02. Are these the steps?

- Download the upgrade-zip file on local machine

- extract the zip-file on local machine

- copy all the unzipped file to the website by over-writing the old-files  (by ftp-program)

- load the website in the browsen

Is it this simple, or do I have to do other things?

Pretty much, that's all you do.  Assuming no strange third party apps that will cause trouble of course.

Three other reminders of good practice:

1. Back up BOTH the file system AND the database before upgrading - just in case something goes wrong.
2. If using Windows native file unzip utilities, before extracting the files from the upgrade package zip, right click on the zip file, select Properties from the context menu, and click the "Unblock" button (if there is one present). A Windows security patch a few months back prevents "dangerous" files such as those ending with the .vb extension from being extracted. Then, unzip as usual.
3. If you site is exposed to the public, stop the site or at least place a file named App_Offline.htm in the sites root folder before begining the FTP transfer of the upgrade files to the site. The App_Offline.htm file will need to be removed or renamed before hitting the site to trigger the upgrade.

Hi All,
I did the upgrade as described above but the Host version number still shows previous version 5.1.4.
Did I miss something?

When you first hit the site after uploading the extracted files (and removing or renaming the App_Offline.htm file) did you see any messages relating to the upgrade process taking place. If so, did you see any red error messages?

If you did not see any evidence of the upgrade being triggered, you may have the following in the <appSettings> section of your site's web.config file:

<add key="AutoUpgrade" value="false" />

Setting AutoUpgrade's value to false prevents the casual user who happens to hit the site just after the upgrade files have been uploaded from triggering the upgrade - which is good! If that is the case, you will need to trigger the upgrade manually by browsing to the following url (replacing <my site domain> with your site's domain):

http://www.<my site domain>/Install/Install.aspx?mode=upgrade
