Hey guys,

I'm having some problems trying to get my website styles to be displayed in the FCK editor window of the Text/HTML module (and any others that use the FCK editor).  I've tried updating the FCK settings from static - dynamic - URL and have managed to get the format fields to update and display the correct H1, H2, H3... styles, but don't see the rest of the website CSS.  Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Reuben.

you should  switch to dynamic for "Edit Area CSS", but you need to apply the proper styles in your CSS properly, so they get applied to the iFramed editor area as well. I suggest retrieving the classed

Thanks for your response Sebastian.

As mentioned, I did try the dynamic option, however I was also experiencing serious browser caching and perhaps when I was testing with the Dynamic option I should have allowed more time for the CSS styles to update.  HOWEVER, I can confirm that we've built a number of DNN site's and in the past have never had any problems leaving the setting set to static.  In fact, I've just checked a number of other sites, all of which display the site CSS, all of which are set to static.  I'm wondering if this is something new in either DNN 5.2 or the current version of FCK that is now enforced (as I've been aware of the static/dynamic/url options for a number of DNN versions now, but never needed to use them in the past)?

Perhaps you can explain what you mean by "I suggest retrieving the classed" Sebastian?  Im not 100% sure.

Thanks,

Reuben.

oops, sorry, somehow I didn't finish the post; if you want to know, how CSS is applied to a part of a web site (including text areas like FCKEditor) use a developer toolbar (available e.g. for FireFox and built into IE8, using F12 key).

there has been changed in about dnn 4.8.x switching from static to dynamic css applied, mostly resulting in background image showing up in the editor area as well.

Thanks again Sebastian.  I'll look into it shortly.

Quick tip re backgrounds:
we simply rip a quick copy of our 'real' CSS file, strip out the background images/colours where appropriate and link to this 'cut down' version.  This way the editor is linking to correctly named styles, but without the annoying background images making it difficult to view your body copy... (when we do this, we typically dump many of the styles that wouldn't be applicable to the text/HTML editor, to cut down the size of the style list too, makes selecting the appropriate style from the list a little easier).

Cheers,

Reuben.
