i'm new in use of DNN and i have very difficult to install it!
i want to know what kind of softwares i must install on my computer before to install dnn 4.0. thank you, fabio

Malota,

There are three main areas of a DotNetNuke installation.
  1. DNN Installation Files (you can also use the starter kit or source code)
  2. Database (MS SQL)
  3. Webserver (IIS)
Software you that you need on the computer that will run DNN.
  1. Dot Net Framework 2.0 (included in custom windows update)
  2. IIS (Windows Webserver which is not installed by default, you have to add this from the windows intall CD)
  3. A Microsoft SQL database (ex. SQL 2000, SQL 2005, SQL 2005 express, MSDE 2000)
If you need help installing and post a question, please specify the version of windows that will run it, and the version of SQL server.

If you are using an older server, so 2000 with SQL 2000 are there things you have to comment out of the webconfig file?

There is only one change if you decide to use Win2k instead of Win2003, and that to use "ASP.NET" instead of "NETWORK SERVICES" for the web folder security.  All of the rest is the same including the web.config.  If you look on the page 1 of my instruction document that you can download from my site by clicking HERE, you will see the full process from start to finish.

in order to reply to mehenson, i use windows xp professional and sql
2005 express.

my difficult born when i read in the guide downloaded from dnn website
that i need a version of visual studio too. but if i comprehend well
i don't need this software to develop my website.

thank you very much to all! this community is wonderfull!!

p.s: i pry you to drop the subject about my BAD english, i am italian!!
