I have just installed dnn 4 and and trying to bring up a site that looks like similar in color to our current site.

i started with the default yellow skin and am working at creating our own. I have new images in both the skins and container folder.

my question is where do i change the style to control the color of the the text that displays under the menu bar.

currently it displays the date, home register and log in

for the life of me i can't find the the correct location for setting the style.

thanks in advance.

Most probably, what you are looking for can be changed in the CSS. I would suggest putting the changes into your skin's CSS file which you would include in your skin file.

If you want to see all the classes and IDs that you can change you can find the default.css file in

domain.com\wwwroot\portals\_default\

If you're feeling particularly frisky, you can edit the default.css directly, however BACK IT UP FIRST! Personally, I usually just upload the skin and then edit the skin's CSS directly so I can see the effects faster, you can find the skin's CSS (once you've uploaded it) in:

domain.com\wwwroot\portals\_default\skins\skinname

Hope that isn't too confusing :)

There is actually an easier way to tweak your css and instantly see your results, without need to backup files.

1) Open Firefox

2) Install the Web Developer Extension (click here if you are currently viewing in firefox)

3) Navigate to your site and click the CSS menu in Firefox

Choose Edit Css (or simply press Ctrl + Shift + E)

4) You will see multiple tabs on the left, one for each css stylesheet referenced.  Edit any class you like and you will see an instant reflection on the page of the style changed!

5)  If you mess up, simply hit the Reset All button above the tabs, or simply reload your page.

I find this the easiest way to troubleshoot css settings that don't seem to make sense...  I simply delete entire sections to see what area is causing me grief.

Hope this is helpful.
